Question by Sam: What do you think will happen for a minor getting arrested for possession of cocaine?
I got arrested about 5 months ago and just got my court papers. I got arrested with about a gram of cocaine. Since I got arrested my parents put me in a outpatient rehab facility, and then have been going to SAFIR once a week ((supporting adolecents in recovery)). I used to have a trauency problem but since then have been switched into independent study and have been getting good grades and attendence and am already working on my next years credits. I also work 2 jobs and do a bit of acting classes and auditions here and there. I’m totally freaking out because I have court in like 2 weeks and the public defender said that the max i can get is 3 years in juvey but I want opinions on what you think will happen? It is a felony and I guess in California they can be a bit harder on cocaine users. No preachers please, I’m stressed and scared enough as it is. I know what I did is wrong and am also writing an essay to the judge to bring.
i also have no other offenses.

It sounds like you’re doing excellent! If you don’t have any other offenses, probably just probation. Keep up the good work!

Question by Christina: What’s your opinion on “once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic?” Do you think the disease model…?
Do you think the disease model of alcoholism has merit? Do you think it’s possible for someone once considered an “alcoholic” to ever drink in a more acceptable way? Like a *normal person*?

I love alcohol and actually have a hangover today

Answer by The Blunt Ugly Truth
Alcolholism is NOT a disease. Anyone who thinks alcoholism is a disease is an idiot.

Here’s a clue: it is NOT a disease when the cure is to simply cease the activity. The only people who think it should be classified as a disease are either those too stupid to know what a disease is (and are brainwashed by the media and the multi-million dollar “anti-alcohol” industry), or those who refuse to take personal responsibility for poor choices in life, and instead want to blame someone or something else for their poor decision making.

Question by Lily_1981: How difficult is it to quit drug and cure drug addiction problem?
My brother had drug problem for at least 10+ years. He used the heavy stuff like cocaine and other stuff I don’t even know of.
The doctor gave him medication to clean his system, and he has been sober for 2 years.
Is it possible for somebody to cure their heavy drug addiction problem in short 2 years? What’s the odd that my brother’s problem is cured?

Best answer:

Answer by Mina
If he has genuinely been sober for two years, than I would say that it’s possible. My mom used to be a heavy heroin user and she has been sober for upwards of 18 years with no relapses.

It of course depends on the willpower of the person in question, but if he has the right coping skills and is determined not to go back to it then he can be “cured” of his addiction. I put cured in quotation marks because there have been recent studies that show that there’s a genetic predisposition to becoming an addict. Likely he’ll always run the risk of relapsing, but if he can stay away from situations that put him into contact with the drugs and have the willpower not to do them if he is in those situations, I’d say your brother would be okay.

Answer by desemonaapsyche
There is no cure for a drug addiction. He might be off it…but it’s something he is going to actively have to do for the rest of his life. If he even does it once ever again he’ll be an addict. I really hope he sticks to it. Two years is good though, you should be proud of him. 🙂
